This is one of those things that surprises newcomers more than any visa rule. Working hours differ enormously between countries: in some places shops run late into the evening seven days a week, while in others everything shuts by early evening and stays closed on Sundays or another religious day. Coming from India, where late-night shopping is normal, the adjustment can be genuinely jarring.
Offices and government departments are usually a weekday-only affair, often with limited public-facing hours, sometimes only mornings. Banks in particular tend to close earlier than you expect. Plan any official errand for a weekday and check the office's posted hours first, because showing up at four in the afternoon often means finding a locked door.
Weekends are the real trap. In countries with strict Sunday closing, you learn quickly to do your grocery run on Saturday. My advice for your first weeks: note the hours of your nearest supermarket, pharmacy, and bank branch, and ask colleagues what closes when. It becomes second nature within a month.
