(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moj.go.jp\/isa\/applications\/resources\/nyukan_nyukan50.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">Ministry of Justice Japan<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. The Three Fundamental Requirements for Japanese PR<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before thinking about points, years or visa categories, understand the foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under Japan&#8217;s PR framework, an ordinary applicant is assessed principally against three requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.1 Good conduct \u2014 \u7d20\u884c\u5584\u826f\u8981\u4ef6<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The applicant should:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>comply with Japanese law;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>live as an ordinary responsible member of society;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>avoid serious criminal violations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>avoid fines or imprisonment that create immigration concerns;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>maintain appropriate immigration compliance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ISA describes the requirement as observing laws and living a life that is not socially blameworthy as a resident. PR Must Be in Japan&#8217;s National Interest \u2014 \u56fd\u76ca\u9069\u5408\u8981\u4ef6<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This broad condition contains several of the rules people commonly think of as separate PR requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ordinarily, applicants are expected to have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>sufficient continuous residence;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>no problematic criminal penalties;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>properly fulfilled tax obligations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>properly fulfilled pension obligations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>properly fulfilled public health-insurance obligations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>properly made required immigration notifications;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an appropriate current status and period of stay;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>no public-health issue making PR inappropriate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moj.go.jp\/isa\/applications\/resources\/nyukan_nyukan50.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">Ministry of Justice Japan<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This requirement is why merely satisfying \u201c10 years,\u201d \u201c70 points,\u201d or \u201c80 points\u201d does <strong>not<\/strong> guarantee approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moj.go.jp\/isa\/applications\/resources\/nyukan_nyukan50.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">Ministry of Justice Japan<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>arrives in Japan in April 2017;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>remains continuously resident;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>holds qualifying employment\/residential statuses for the necessary period;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>remains compliant;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">may ordinarily begin examining standard PR eligibility around April 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But this 10-year rule has important exceptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. PR for the Spouse of a Japanese National<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of the biggest exceptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the spouse of a:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Japanese national;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Permanent Resident; or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Special Permanent Resident,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the applicant can generally satisfy the residence-duration exception where:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the genuine marital relationship has continued for <strong>3 years or more<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AND<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the applicant has lived continuously in Japan for at least <strong>1 year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moj.go.jp\/isa\/applications\/resources\/nyukan_nyukan50.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">Ministry of Justice Japan<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The requirement concerns a <strong>genuine marital relationship<\/strong>, not merely the date written on a marriage certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Immigration may assess whether the couple is actually living as spouses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Refugees and Complementary Protection<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person officially recognized as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a refugee; or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a person eligible for complementary protection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">may fall within the special PR residence rule after:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">generally <strong>5 years of continuous residence after recognition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The current guidelines also provide special treatment for certain third-country resettled refugees.
